FreeNameTrace Help

A simple guide for parents and teachers to make beautiful, printable name tracing worksheets.

Quick Start

  • Open the worksheet designer and enter the student name.
  • Adjust Repetitions and Word Spacing (pt) for a comfortable layout.
  • Click Download to save a ready-to-print PDF.

Basic Settings

  • Paper Size: US Letter (8.5"×11") or A4.
  • Grade Level: Pre‑K / Kinder / Grade 1 — sets line height to match Zaner‑Bloser standards.
  • Font Style: Print (dots) or Cursive (requires Pro).

Advanced Settings

  • Grid Lines: Toggle standard blue/red lines or clean layout.
  • Text Layout: Control repetitions per line and spacing in points (pt).

Header & Branding

  • Custom Header Title and Header Info (Name/Date/Score) are available in Pro.
  • School Logo upload is available in Teacher Pro. You can also clear the logo at any time.
  • Brand Watermark (freenametrace.com) can be shown or hidden in Pro.

Classroom (Teacher Pro)

  • Switch to Whole Class mode and click Class Adjustments.
  • Paste a list of names (one per line), then fine‑tune Repetitions and Spacing for each student.
  • Export options: All PDFs, Merged PDF (one file), or Zip (all PDFs in a zip).

Export & Printing

  • Exported PDFs match the on‑screen preview (SVG‑first, WYSIWYG).
  • Print at 100% scale, no “fit to page”, on US Letter or A4 as selected.
  • For best results, use standard classroom paper and a fine‑tip marker.

Fonts

  • To embed custom fonts in PDFs, place font files in public/fonts (e.g., KGPrimaryDots.ttf, LearningCurve.ttf).
  • If a font is missing, the PDF will fall back to a standard font; add the font file and re‑export.
